NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme)
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a way of providing support for Australians with disabilities, their families and carers. It’s for Australians under the age of 64 with a permanent and significant disability to provide them with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to live an ordinary life. As an insurance scheme, the aim is to invest in people with a disability early to improve their outcomes later in life. The NDIS aims to support people with a disability to build skills and capability so they can participate in the community and employment. Assistance from the NDIS is not means tested and has no impact on income support such as the Carers Allowance.
- Australian residents
- Children and adults aged between 7-65, or
- Children aged between 0-6 are eligible for ‘Early
- Childhood Intervention’ and
- Requiring support from another person to complete daily tasks due to an impairment that is likely to be permanent, or
- Requiring current support to reduce the need for supports in the future
The NDIS has developed a series of three information booklets for potential and current participants that explain the NDIS and process of obtaining a plan and accessing supports. These booklets can be downloaded using the links below and are also available either via the NDIS Website or by asking one of our Client Support Coordinators.
