Play skills
Play is one of the most important ways that children learn about the world. When children play with adults or other children it teaches them many skills such as how to get along with others, problem solving and how to communicate and use language effectively. Play is a motivating and engaging way for children to learn new skills and use their imagination.
- Joint attention skills (is shared enjoyment where two people pay attention to the same thing).
- Taking turns during play.
- Functional play (to play with toys or objects according to their intended function – e.g., kick a ball).
- Pretend play (imaginative/creative play e.g., playing superheros or making pretend food and eating it).
- We teach children how to play with a variety of toys to expand their interests.
- Improve a child’s attention and ability to attend to a toy or game (extending the length of time that a child can stay focused and playing with a toy).
